We have now been back from Tassie for a few weeks and had a
fantastic time there! We all loved
it! Steve kept saying “ooooh, I could
live here”… although he does say that in a lot of places! We did lots of walking in national parks
followed by swimming at a beach or water hole… (even though the water was
freezing). Actually that seems to be
pretty much our general routine….a walk in the morning followed by a swim or
playground somewhere….keeps everyone happy!!
We loved the peace and tranquillity of Tasmania and the
natural beauty of the place. We pretty
much drove a loop around, hugging the coast.
We enjoyed time at the Bay of Fires which has stunning beaches and
scenery, Bicheno where we huddled up at dusk in the cold to see the penguins
come ashore – so cute! Then onto Douglas
Apsley National Park for a spot of swimming in icy waters (no, I didn’t go in!)
and Freycinet National Park where we enjoyed a beautiful walk to Wineglass Bay
(that wasn’t so much fun for Steve actually who had to carry Megs up the last
400 steps!!)…he just added he was also carrying 3 waterbottles and the Cookson
lunch bag (heavy!!). The rest of us
enjoyed it !!
Hobart was a real hit too with the museum, which was great
as it wasn’t too big! From there we drove to beautiful Strachan and then onto
Cradle Mountain which was just spectacular – great walks and wildlife. In the evenings we would go out “wombat
spotting”! The kids were thrilled in
Tassie to see the Tassie Devil, seahorses and lots of native animals. We enjoyed Tassie so much we extended our
stay and would definitely go back….we highly recommend it for those with kids
or without!
We have now just crossed the Nullarbor and enjoying our
first night with showers!! I’ll update
you on that on our next email. We are
meeting Nanny Ann (Steve’s Mum) next week in Perth to celebrate Steve’s 50th!
Will be in touch again shortly!
Take care
The Happy Wanderers!
